The Audi R8 V10

This car's midmounted engine provides 560hp, and the magnesium chassis provides light weight and great stability. The sequential-shift transmission and all wheel drive allow it to reach 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of almost 200 mph, and it is the fastest, most powerful and lightest car in Audi's lineup.

Creating the Audi R8 v10 was difficult, to say the least. Audi stripped 180 pounds from the base model, then shifted their focus to the engine, where developers were able to wring 35 additional horsepower out of the V10. The car received upgraded brakes, suspension and undercarriage, and the transmission and drivetrain received upgrades as well. Styling touches were added that both boosted performance and improved the car's appearance.

Audi R8 V10

Audi limited production to just 333 models worldwide, and only 90 of those made it to the US. The R8 is not to be confused with the car maker's Le Mans Prototype car of the same name, and it arrived in the US for 2008. It shares some undercarriage components with Lamborghini's Gallardo, and it is Audi's priciest offering.

Audi recently announced that there was a new version of the car in development, claiming that they were further lightening it, adding power and yet again upgrading brakes and suspension. Based on past performance, we see no reason to doubt their claims, and are anxious to see what the new R8 brings to the table.
