The Pagani Zonda F

The Pagani Zonda F was unveiled in 2005 in Geneva, and it is one of the fastest cars ever produced. Its body is made almost entirely of carbon fiber, and its fit and finish are immaculate. With the Zonda F, Pagani joins a group of smaller, independent car makers that are mounting a challenge to bigger manufacturers such as Lamborghini, Ferrari and Porsche.

During the beginning of the project, race driver Juan Manuel Fangio had enormous influence and input with Horacio Pagani. Pagani said that Fangio had enormous "technical sensibility" and was the inspiration behind the car. The Zonda F is a limited edition vehicle that will be built right alongside the production model; it takes some of the modifications from the C12-S Monza and refines them even further. These modifications mean that the F is lighter, faster and more powerful than the car that came before.

The Zonda F was shaped primarily by aerodynamics. Additions include a fixed wing that gets unimpeded air flow, thanks to the relocation of the side mirrors. To help with under-car airflow, a front splitter and rear diffuser with two wings create additional downforce. On the front of the car, a larger air intake increases the cooling of the enormous V12 engine.

To give the F even more power, the standard Mercedes-Benz induction unit was replaced. The new unit has larger intake openings, and when coupled with the newer, larger exhaust, the 7.3L engine puts out 620hp. There is an available Club Sport model, with thirty additional horsepower.

The chassis was also upgraded in several ways, all of which serve to lighten the vehicle. Both 19" and 20" wheels are available; they accommodate the larger brakes (which are now available in ceramic). Titanium lug nuts and the carbon fiber body give the Zonda F a curb weight of just over 2,711 lbs.

With all of these changes, it's really no surprise that the Pagani Zonda F is superior to many other supercars. With up to 650hp, the Club Sport model can easily run with the likes of the Ferrari Enzo and the Porsche Carrera GT.
